[Saba Sports News] Toto
Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes, has agreed to a contract extension that
will keep him in charge of the team until at least the end of 2026. The
decision was reached by Wolff, James Ratcliffe, the CEO of Ineos, and Ola
Kallenius, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz, who all believe that ensuring stability in
the team’s management is crucial to returning to the forefront of Formula 1.
Reports indicate that Wolff, Ratcliffe, and Kallenius each own one-third of the
Mercedes F1 team. In an interview with the “Daily Telegraph”
following the contract renewal, Wolff emphasized that winning is the best
return on investment and that the team’s focus is on challenging Red Bull
Racing’s dominant position. Notably, Wolff mentioned that his future with the
team is independent of their performance, as his contract does not include any
performance clauses. In the editor’s perspective, Wolff’s contract extension
implies his involvement in the comprehensive reform of F1 engine regulations in
2026, indicating that the Mercedes F1 team is already ahead of its competitors
in terms of preparation.
