Will Pucovski, the unfortunate batter, has recovered
from his most recent concussion and has been called back to the Victoria
Sheffied Shield team for a pivotal game against NSW.
After being hit on the helmet during batting in a 2nd XI match on January 22,
the 25-year-old was unable to participate in Victoria’s last-start Shield
victory against South Australia. On Friday, however, Pucovski will start
against NSW at the SCG after being cleared to play.
“Unfortunately our white-ball campaign came to an
end on Wednesday but we now turn our attention to putting together a strong
Shield performance at the SCG and put ourselves in the running to make the
Shield final,” David Hussey, Cricket Victoria’s head of male cricket,
said.
“It is fantastic to welcome back our captain in
Will Sutherland for the Shield after his international debut, while it is also
great to have Will Pucovski back in the squad.”
When Pucovski was struck on the helmet last month, his
concussion was ruled out at the time, but he started to show symptoms a few
days later.
Pucovski has returned to cricket this summer after taking a leave of absence in
2022 due to mental health issues, despite having 11 concussions.
The right-hander, who is recognised as one of Australia’s top young hitters,
took a year off from the game before making his comeback.
This season, Pucovski has participated in three Sheffield Shield matches and
achieved a maximum score of 65. He has also represented Victoria in a tour
match against Pakistan.
Victoria sit second on the Shield table and remain a
chance to secure a home final with three matches remaining. They will head to
Sydney at full-strength, taking seven players with international experience.
