[Saba Sports] England and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast-bowler Mark Wood has opted out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
This news came to light on Saturday when in a media advisory, it was revealed that Shamar Joseph has been signed by LSG as Wood’s replacement.
While the reason behind Wood’s withdrawal from the league has not been made official, the ESPNCricinfo reported that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) pulled the speedster out of the tournament to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.
The ECB has devised the same plan for Jofra Archer, who also did not put his name in the IPL 2024 auction after getting released by Mumbai Indians.
Wood played four matches for the Lucknow-based franchise in IPL 2023. He picked 11 wickets in the 17th edition of the tournament. LSG had picked him in the IPL 2022 auction but he did not played that season due to an elbow injury.
