In the ICC rankings for batters, India’s go-to batsman
Virat Kohli rose two spots on Wednesday after smashing an incredible 85 in his
team’s six-wicket victory against Australia during the World Cup in Chennai.
When Kohli began to bat, India was in a critical 2 for 2 situation, which
quickly turned into 5 for 3. However, Kohli rallied his team with a tough
performance that halted Australia’s advance while adding a game-winning 165 for
the fourth wicket with KL Rahul. In contrast to Aiden Markram of South Africa,
who became the tournament’s fastest century-maker by moving up 11 spots, Rahul,
who made 97 not out against Australia, rose 15 spots to take over the 19th
position.
On Wednesday, the ICC released a statement that
ignored Kohli’s unbroken 55 against Afghanistan, which helped India win for the
second time in a row with 8 wickets remaining and 15 overs remaining.
“Ten centuries across the opening eight matches
at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 have shaken up the top end of the ICC
Men’s ODI Batting Rankings,” the International Cricket Council stated on
its website.
Mohammed Siraj, another Indian, dropped to second
place after briefly holding the top spot with Josh Hazlewood of Australia.
After the match against Australia, Siraj dropped five points.
Despite his three-wicket haul in Chennai, all-rounder
Ravindra Jadeja didn’t make it into the top-40 list of bowlers, but India’s
Kuldeep Yadav moved up three spots to finish eighth.
Quinton de Kock moved up one spot to achieve sixth
place with to his 84-ball 100 against Sri Lanka in a World Cup match at New
Delhi.
Dawid Malan of England, who scored a magnificent 140
against Bangladesh at Dharamsala, rose up to seven spots in the rankings to
take the eighth slot, while Imam Ul Haq of Pakistan fell three spots to take
the ninth spot.
Trent Boult of New Zealand rose two spots to take
third place in the ICC rankings, and Matt Henry advanced four spaces to take
fifth place inside the top 10.
