[Saba Sports News] In a recent interview with the
Dutch magazine “Formule1,” three-time F1 world champion Max
Verstappen revealed a hidden clause in his contract with the Red Bull Racing
Team. The clause prohibits Verstappen from engaging in any “dangerous”
activities, which includes sports that have the potential to cause injuries or
sprains, such as skiing. This clause has been in effect for the past five
years. Verstappen disclosed that the clause became relevant in September of the
previous year when he expressed a desire to participate in a Red Bull event at
the Nurburgring and drive his old championship car alongside Sebastian Vettel.
However, this request was rejected by Red Bull team consultant Helmut Marko. It
is common for teams to include similar clauses in drivers’ contracts to prevent
them from participating in activities that could result in serious injuries.
However, Verstappen expressed envy towards McLaren driver Lando Norris, as
McLaren did not impose such restrictions on him, allowing Norris to ski. Norris
has been sharing skiing videos on social media in recent weeks. These clauses
are put in place by teams to protect their drivers from potential harm and
ensure their availability for races. While Verstappen is bound by this
agreement, it appears that other drivers, like Norris, have more flexibility in
participating in activities outside of Formula One.
