[Saba Sports News] England’s iconic cricket ground in Nottingham, called ‘Trent Bridge,’ is all set to rename its Pavilion End to the ‘Stuart Broad End.’
Broad, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, concluded his celebrated career after playing 167 Test matches for England
Broad was born and brought up in Nottingham and played county cricket for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. He played all his domestic cricket at Trent Bridge.
Trent Bridge saw only one hat trick in Test Cricket, and that too was achieved by their local lad, Broad, in July 2011 against India. Broad also delivered an outstanding performance at Trent Bridge in the 2015 Ashes series playing against Australia in the fourth Test, where he took eight wickets in the first innings as Australia got dismissed for a mere score of 60. Broad played 11 international Test matches at Trent Bridge and picked up 46 wickets, which is the second-most by any bowler at the venue, with an average of 25.06 and an economy rate of 2.90.
“It’s a bit surreal to think that part of the ground where I fell in love with cricket will now bear my name. Playing for Notts (Nottinghamshire) has meant so much to me and I’ve been so grateful that, wherever my career has taken me, I’ve always been able to come home to Trent Bridge. As someone who is Nottingham born and bred, this is an incredibly proud moment for myself and my family.” said Broad in a statement.
The 37-year-old Broad, who recently became the fifth bowler in Test cricket to claim more than 600 wickets, retired after featuring in the fifth and last test of the Ashes 2023. Nottinghamshire chairman Andy Hunt paid tribute to England’s veteran pacer for his illustrious career by renaming the Pavilion End to his name.
“It feels entirely appropriate that the end of his home ground, where he achieved some of his most remarkable milestones, will now serve as a permanent tribute to his illustrious cricketing career,” said Hunt.
