Sports News] In the recently concluded 2024 Super 750 Series Indian Open, Tai
Tzu-Ying, the talented player from Chinese Taipei, clinched the women’s singles
championship title without dropping a single game. Prior to the tournament,
several media outlets reported that Tai Tzu Ying plans to retire at the end of
this year’s season, making her final appearance at the India Open. Due to her
exceptional skills displayed during the matches, she was hailed by fans as a
badminton magician. As a result of her triumph in the India Open, Tai Tzu Ying
has earned a new nickname – TAI Tzu. It is worth noting that “TAI”
represents Tai Tzu Ying’s surname, but it holds a unique significance in India,
and fans have adopted the shortened version “TAI Tzu” to refer to
her. Tai Tzu Ying expressed that while it feels unfamiliar, she appreciates the
support from her fans. Over the past two years, Tai Tzu Ying has been in
excellent form. In the last three world competitions, she came close to
securing the women’s singles title, securing two gold medals and one silver
medal. However, despite her repeated attempts, she has fallen short of winning
gold in the Olympics, World Championships, and other major tournaments, earning
her the distinction of being an “uncrowned queen,” akin to the
legendary Malaysian player Lee Chong Wei. With just six months remaining until
the Paris Olympics, the 29-year-old Tai Tzu Ying is in her prime, leading fans
to believe that this renowned “uncrowned champion” of world badminton
has a strong chance of claiming the Olympic gold medal in women’s singles.
