Sports News] In the third round of the FA Cup, Sunderland suffered a 0-3 home
defeat against Newcastle United. However, the main talking point of this match
was not the goals or the final result, but rather the similarity in the kits
worn by both teams. During the game, both Sunderland and Newcastle sported
jerseys with vertical stripes. The base color of the jerseys was white, but the
stripe colors differed. To avoid further clash, Newcastle wore white shorts and
white socks, while Sunderland wore black shorts and red socks. Despite these
efforts, many fans found it challenging to distinguish between the two teams,
especially when the players were moving at high speeds. Disgruntled fans took
to social media to express their dissatisfaction. Some fans commented,
“Often, I can’t differentiate between players from the two teams. Why are
they both wearing striped jerseys? Red and white stripes and black and white
stripes—it’s a terrible combination.” This situation has proven to be
quite frustrating for supporters, who have to constantly strain their eyes to
identify the Newcastle and Sunderland players. Moreover, the choice of jerseys
is particularly unfriendly for color-blind fans who may struggle to
differentiate between the two teams’ players.
