Sports News] Malaysian badminton men’s doubles player Soh Wooi Yik recently
celebrated his 26th birthday. On that day, he was representing the national
team in the Asian Badminton Team Championships. Unfortunately, the Malaysian
team was unable to secure victory in the finals, finishing second to the
Chinese team. Following the game, Soh Wooi Yik was interviewed by the media and
shared his birthday wish, which is to win a gold medal in the men’s doubles
event at the Paris Olympics. He expressed, “One of my birthday wishes is
to compete alongside my partner in the Olympics. It has always been my dream to
achieve exceptional results at the Paris Olympics and bring home the gold
medal.” Born in 1998, Soh Wooi Yik has been immersed in badminton since
childhood. His talent quickly emerged, and he turned professional at the age of
17, representing the national team in various competitions. His most notable
achievement, alongside his partner Chia Teng Fong, was winning the men’s
doubles event at the 2022 World Badminton Championships, marking a historic
victory as Malaysia’s first-ever world champion in a singles badminton event.
Currently, Soh Wooi Yik and his partner are ranked fourth in the world in men’s
doubles.
