Following his magnificent performance against Sri
Lanka in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, Mohammed Siraj has reclaimed his
position as the No. 1 ODI bowler in the world. Siraj previously held the spot
between January and March 2023 before being replaced by Josh Hazlewood, making
this his second stint at the top of the leaderboard.
As a result of his ten-wicket haul at an average of
12.2, Siraj has risen eight spots to the top of the rankings. The 6 for 21 run
that demolished Sri Lanka for 50 all out in the championship was the
performance’s high point. Siraj described that stint as “like a
dream” and that it included a four-wicket over, which has only happened
three times in men’s ODIs.
Performances from the Asia Cup also took Afghanistan
spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman (No. 4) and Rashid Khan (No. 5) into the top five.
They took two wickets apiece in the group stage.
