[Saba Sports News] In what is a positive development coming straight from Colombo, India’s Shreyas Iyer hit the nets on Thursday morning before the final Super Four fixture of the Asia Cup 2023.
Shreyas experienced back spasms minutes before the Indo-Pak clash. This forced him out of the match as KL Rahul made a last-minute entry in his place. The middle-order batter also missed out on India’s previous match versus Sri Lanka, scheduled on September 12.
However, Shreyas has shown good signs of recovery. He was a part of India’s optional training session on the eve of the Bangladesh match. He started off his practice, taking throwdowns, and then moved to play a couple of net bowlers.
For the unversed, the 28-year-old was away from cricket for about six months due to an injury. He played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 where in the third Test he complained of back pain. He then underwent a surgery for the same, which was followed by a lengthy rehabilitation.
He returned to play for India in the Asia Cup 2023 where he featured in two games before showing fitness concerns again related to his back.
Even if Shreyas is declared fit, India would have to take a call on who to drop between Rahul and Ishan Kishan, if at all they want him in the playing XI.
