[Saba Sports News] During the 8th round of the Premier
League, Sheffield United faced an unfortunate incident in their away match
against Fulham. In the 35th minute of the first half, Sheffield United’s
35-year-old defender and captain, Chris Basham, experienced a slip on his
supporting foot while running. This resulted in a severe deformation and
fracture of his ankle. The team doctor immediately entered the field, and
Basham required oxygen treatment. He was subsequently transported to the
hospital via an on-site ambulance. The game was interrupted for approximately
10 minutes due to the incident. As Basham left the field, he regained
consciousness and gave a thumb up to the fans and his teammates, who responded
with applause. Given Basham’s age of 35 and the severity of his injury, there
is a possibility that he may retire from professional football as a result of
this unfortunate incident.
