Same-old B Sai Sudharsan in a brand-new surroundings.
Sudharsan arrived in Rajkot through Mumbai and set himself up for another
victory with 72 runs of the finest quality on a day one turner, less than 24
hours after winning the championship with Surrey in Southampton during what was
his first county spell. On a surface that also offered Saurashtra’s bowlers
varying bounce, Sudharsan was the only batter from the Rest of India to surpass
the 40-run mark.
Rest of India lost 3 for 22 when Sudharsan was
dismissed, but helpful contributions from the lower order helped them get
closer to 300 by day’s end.
Sudharsan has been churning out runs ever since
hitting 96 off 47 balls for Gujarat Titans in the IPL final in May. TNP:
verified. Check: Duleep Trophy. India A: verified. Check: Deodhar Trophy.
County cricket is in order. On Sunday, he proceeded with ease towards home
plate despite some of the other batters having difficulty at the other end.
Dodiya could have drawn Sudharsan off of the crease
for a dismissal on 23, but wicketkeeper Harvik Desai failed to take advantage
of the opportunity to stump him. In order to deal with spin and wait for loose
balls, Sudharsan then tightened up: he was either right forward or right back.
When they arrived, he quickly dispatched them with drives and flicks. He
reached his half-century before lunch thanks to one of these films.
Sudharsan is accustomed to playing for his Jolly
Rovers team in Chennai’s first-division league on such turners. He occasionally
made batting against Saurashtra’s spinners in Rajkot appear simple.
The spin trio of Bhut, Jadeja, and Dodiya put in
significant work on the first day, while the seamers only bowled 16 of the 90
overs. Saurabh, Mulani, and Pulkit Narang are the three spinners available to
the Rest of India, and they will play a significant role on a field that will
become slower as the game goes on.
