During the international match days in November, a total of 13 Roma
players were called up by their respective national teams. While this may seem
like a significant impact on Roma, the actual situation is relatively
manageable as most of the players were substitutes for their national teams. For
instance, Romelu Lukaku only played 45 minutes in Belgium’s two games, Gianluca
Mancini and Stephan El Shaarawy did not feature in the match against Ukraine,
and Christian Bryan Cristante came on as a substitute. Roma are expected to
field their regular formation of 3-4-2-1, with Lukaku leading the attack as a
powerful striker. Their current situation is favorable, having secured 13
points in the last six league matches and only suffering a loss to league
leaders Inter. Roma have won six consecutive home games, indicating a return to
their best form.
Udinese have experienced a lot of draws this season, having recorded
eight draws out of their matches, resulting in an astonishing drawing rate of
66.67%. Their management expressed dissatisfaction with these results and made
a coaching change at the end of October. The new coach, Gabriele Cioffi,
previously served as an assistant coach at Udinese and took over as the head
coach in the 2021-22 season, successfully guiding the team to avoid relegation.
Udinese primarily employ a defensive counterattacking style of play. They rely
on wing breakthroughs and aerial crosses to create scoring opportunities. They
have been particularly effective in dribbling, averaging 9.3 dribbles per game,
which is the highest in the league. Additionally, they excel in aerial duels,
averaging 16.2 successful aerial duels per game, ranking third in the league.
However, Udinese’s main challenge lies in their offensive performance as they
have struggled to find a consistent goal scorer, similar to the likes of Romelu
Lukaku.
From a strength perspective, it can be argued that Roma are the
stronger side compared to Udinese. Given this, it is likely that Roma will
adopt a more attacking approach in the game, while Udinese may focus more on
defensive tactics. Home-field advantage and the support of the fans can also
play a significant role in motivating Roma to secure all three points.
