[Saba Sports News] In a recent social media post, Rashid Khan pledged his support to the earthquake-stricken people of Afghanistan. A devastating earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, struck 40 kilometers west of Herat city in the western Herat province on Sunday, October 8.
The disaster has claimed over 2,000 lives and left more than 1,000 people injured. Despite being in India to participate in the ODI World Cup, Rashid Khan announced on his ‘X’ and Instagram profiles that he will donate his entire match fees from the tournament to aid the earthquake victims in his homeland. Additionally, he revealed plans to launch a fundraising campaign to provide further assistance to those in need.
“I learned with great sadness about the tragic consequences of the earthquake that struck the western provinces (Herat, Farah, and Badghis) of Afghanistan. I am donating all of my #CWC23 match fees to help the affected people. Soon, we will be launching a fundraising campaign to call upon those who can support the people in need,” Rashid Khan, the prominent spin-bowler, conveyed via Instagram and X.
Afghanistan is set to face India on Wednesday, October 11, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi during the ODI World Cup 2023. The Afghan team commenced their campaign against Bangladesh, facing a six-wicket defeat in a one-sided match. They aspire to mount a strong comeback, though overcoming a formidable opponent like India presents a significant challenge.
Rashid Khan, who has experienced a dip in form recently, will be eager to revitalize his performance and that of his team.
