[Saba Sports News] At the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Indian cricket team faced Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, where Australia clinched a six-wicket victory, led by Travis Head’s stellar century and his crucial partnership with Marnus Labuschagne.
Post-match, Indian coach Rahul Dravid, in a press conference, shared that he hasn’t yet deliberated on his future as India’s Head Coach, having been fully focused on the World Cup campaign.
He commended captain Rohit Sharma’s immense dedication and leadership throughout the tournament. Dravid highlighted Rohit’s commitment to planning and strategy, his positive approach, and his desire to lead by example with an aggressive style of play.
“I just think he’s given so much of his time and energy in addressing the boys. He’s always been available for any of our conversations for any of our meetings. Sometimes a lot of planning, a lot of strategy goes in, and he’s always committed to those things. He’s given a lot of his time and energy into this campaign.”
Despite falling short in the final, Dravid praised Rohit’s significant contributions to the team’s journey in the tournament.
“His batting as well has been fantastic. He really set the tone for us. He wanted to play a certain way, he wanted to play in a positive, attacking brand of cricket and has been very committed to that. He wanted to lead by example and he did. I can’t speak more highly of him,” Dravid shared.
India’s attempt to secure their fourth ODI World Cup title and avenge their 2003 final defeat was thwarted by Australia, who with this victory, further established their dominance in international cricket by winning their sixth ODI World Cup trophy.
