Will Pucovski, who earlier retired hurt after being
knocked on the head while playing for Victoria in the second XI, is cleared to
resume batting after passing a concussion test.
In the most recent incident involving the 25-year-old,
he was struck in the helmet while trying a hook shot from South Australian
paceman David Grant.
Pucovski, who had scored forty-two, was allowed to bat
for four more balls in the match on Monday at Adelaide’s Karen Rolton Oval, but
he eventually retired hurt. After a little while, he was cleared to continue
his innings.
“Pucovski passed a concussion test before batting
in the nets where was given the all clear to continue playing,” a Cricket
Victoria statement said. “He will be monitored through the day and the
rest of the game.”
After taking a leave of absence in 2022 due to mental
health concerns and sustaining 11 concussions, Pucovski—who participated in one
Test match in January 2021—returned to cricket this summer. Pucovski, who is
considered one of Australia’s top young batsmen, had taken a year off from
cricket before making his comeback.
He made 62 in the first innings of his Test debut
against India at the SCG, however he injured his shoulder in the field.
Pucovski participated in the Surrey Championship in
England last winter as a cricket player for the Weybridge Cricket Club. During
his 18 matches, he amassed 614 runs at an average of 55.82, which included four
half-centuries and a century.
Pucovski has not been able to play a complete domestic
season since making his Victoria debut in February 2017. The closest he has
ever come was in the 2019–20 season, when he played six Shield matches, four
List A matches, and the first half of the summer for Victoria before taking an
extended hiatus in December of that same year and not playing again until the
2020–21 season.
