[Saba Sports News] Sri Lanka batter Pathum Nissanka registered his name into the record books on Friday, becoming the first double-centurion from his country in ODI cricket.
Nissanka achieved this feat in the first ODI of the ongoing series against Afghanistan. He missed the one-off Test due to an illness, however, it did not take him much time to settle in as the ball was smashed all over the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
His marathon 210-run knock included 20 fours and eight sixes. The opener carried the bat through the innings, taking Sri Lanka to a total of 381 runs in 50 overs.
Nissanka’s 210 is the highest score by a Sri Lanka in ODIs and the fifth-highest overall. He beat the record of Sanath Jayasuriya, whose 189 versus India was the previous best score by a Sri Lanka batter in the ODI cricket history.
The 25-year-old became the 10th double-cebturion in men’s ODI cricket. He completed the milestone in just 136 deliveries, becoming the third-fastest to do so in ODIs.
