[Saba Sports News] England’s Dawid Malan celebrated his spectacular century in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with a surprise cake facial from his teammates. Malan scored 140 runs in 107 deliveries, including 16 boundaries and five sixes. This joyous moment followed England’s lackluster tournament opener against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
What set Malan’s century apart was his unique innings pattern. His first 50 runs came off 39 balls, but he accelerated in the second half, taking 52 deliveries to reach the next 50. He reached his century in style.
This remarkable feat marked Malan’s maiden World Cup hundred, making him the eighth England opener to achieve this in the prestigious 50-over World Cup. Additionally, he became the quickest player to score six ODI hundreds, achieving this in just 23 innings.
This historic day also saw Malan join the ranks of two other England batsmen who scored centuries in a World Cup hosted in India: Graham Gooch with 115 in 1987 and Andrew Strauss with 158 in 2011.
