[Saba Sports News] Bob Myers, the former general manager of the Golden State Warriors, has transitioned from basketball to football with his latest career move. Myers has been recruited by the Washington Commanders to aid in their search for a new head coach and head of football operations, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski. Joining him in this effort is Rick Spielman, ex-general manager of the Minnesota Vikings.
This development follows the Commanders’ recent dismissal of head coach Ron Rivera after a disappointing 4-13 season, marking their third losing season in four years under Rivera’s leadership.
Commanders owner Josh Harris has entrusted Myers with the responsibility of identifying potential candidates and organizing interviews, as confirmed by Washington officials to ESPN. The advisory committee for this process also includes limited partners Mitch Rates, Magic Johnson, and David Blitzer.
With a change in ownership and Daniel Snyder no longer involved, the Commanders’ head coach position is anticipated to attract considerable interest. Holding the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft puts the team in a prime position to select a top quarterback.
Myers, 48, who resigned from his role with the Warriors last summer, is renowned for his two-time NBA Executive of the Year accolades and for building a team that secured four championships. Since leaving the Warriors, he has been working with a broadcasting network.
