[Saba Sports News] The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly considering hiring Mike Budenholzer, the only NBA champion head coach from the past decade currently without a team. This speculation arises from a recent column by Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, linking Budenholzer to the Nets’ open head coaching spot following Jacque Vaughn’s dismissal. Fischer points out the team’s need for a coach with substantial playoff experience, highlighting Budenholzer’s impressive resume.
At 54, Budenholzer boasts two Coach of the Year awards and led the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2021 NBA Championship. His career record stands at 484-317, and he also secured four titles as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, where he worked alongside current Nets GM Sean Marks.
Despite a setback from a first-round playoff loss to the Miami Heat last year that led to his exit from Milwaukee, Budenholzer remains a respected figure in coaching circles. While the Nets have appointed a former NCAA champion as their interim coach, Budenholzer is seen as a strong candidate for the permanent role.
