[Saba Sports News] NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is set to continue leading the league with a new contract extension. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Silver is close to securing a deal to remain commissioner until the end of the decade, though specific details of the contract haven’t been revealed.
Silver, 61, succeeded David Stern as commissioner in 2014, after serving as Stern’s deputy for eight years. Since taking the helm, Silver has initiated significant changes in the NBA. These include introducing the In-Season Tournament and Play-In Tournament, both of which have been well-received by fans. He also reformed the NBA Draft lottery to discourage teams from deliberately losing games to improve their draft position.
A graduate of Duke University, Silver successfully guided the NBA through challenging times, including the Donald Sterling scandal and the creation of the NBA Bubble during the pandemic’s early stages. His last contract extension was in 2018.
With this new extension, Silver is expected to lead critical initiatives, such as negotiating the NBA’s upcoming media deals and addressing the potential expansion of the league.
