[Saba Sports News] The World Cup 2023 will be the last dance for Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq in ODI cricket.
The pacer will bring down the curtains on his ODI career post the upcoming World Cup.
Informing about his decision by an Instagram post on Wednesday, Naveen revealed that he is taking this step step to prolong his playing career.
The 24-year-old will continue to play for Afghanistan in the T20 format.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would
like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup
and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country
it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing
career had to take this tough decision would like to thank
@afghanistancricketboard And all my fans for their support and
unwavering love,” Naveen posted on his official Instagram account
Naveen made his ODI debut in 2016 versus Bangladesh. He took a long sabbatical from the ODIs in 2021, however, earned a call-up out of nowhere for the 2023 World Cup.
He has featured in seven ODI matches so far, claiming 14 wickets an average and an economy rate of 25.42 and 5.78 respectively.
