[Saba Sports News] In what is a welcoming news for Australia, their star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has regained full fitness ahead of the big-ticket clash against India.
Australia will commence their campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 versus India on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
As informed by the Aussie head coach Andrew McDonald on Thursday, Stoinis had hurt his hamstring in the first ODI of the most recent India-Australia series.
“That happened after the Mohali game. He pulled up a little bit sore
from that game and then further investigation obviously led to that
being a slight hamstring and then he’s just rehabilitating,” McDonald said as quoted in a press conference.
“It’ll be touch-and-go for game one. He
hasn’t certainly been ruled out of that but we weren’t prepared to risk
him in those practice games,” he added.
Although doubts loomed over Stoinis’ fitness, his practice session on Friday can be viewed as how he is progressing.
The 34-year-old bowled for around 40 minutes at Chepauk and then focused on his batting, spending about 47 minutes in the nets.
It sends in a positive sign that the West Australian have recovered from the injury and will most likely take the field on Sunday when Pat Cummins and Co. will take on the hosts India.
