[Saba Sports News] In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Nosthush Kenjige and Ali Sheikh, both local talents, turned the tide for the Dallas Mustangs in their quest for their maiden minor league title. The Mustangs had been on a dominant run throughout the season, winning 11 out of 13 games. However, they found themselves in a precarious position at 46 for 5 in the final against the Somerset Cavaliers, with key batsmen dismissed.
Kenjige and Sheikh joined forces in the 11th over, seemingly facing a lost cause. They refused to back down and launched a counter-attack. Sheikh displayed fearless batting, hitting boundaries and commanding the situation. Their partnership of 56 runs propelled the Mustangs to a total of 121 at the end of their 20 overs.
Although the Mustangs had given themselves a chance, the Cavaliers boasted strong batting firepower. However, Kenjige and Hammad Azam, with their exceptional bowling, turned the game in favor of the Mustangs. They applied immense pressure, conceding just 6 runs in the next 6 overs and taking 4 wickets in the process.
Kenjige, not only a star with bat and ball but also a brilliant fielder, made a significant impact. His direct hit resulted in a crucial run-out, reminiscent of his earlier performance in the MLC against the Washington Freedom.
Speaking about the win, Kenjige expressed his excitement about winning the trophy in front of their home crowd in Dallas and described it as a massive opportunity for the team.
Kenjige’s outstanding performances have earned him recognition, and he has signed up for the ILT20, marking his entry into top-level franchise cricket outside the US. Despite missing their talisman Corey Anderson, Kenjige’s leadership and contributions played a pivotal role in the Mustangs’ fairytale season.
The 2023 American cricket summer has seen Kenjige rise as a new star in American cricket, thanks to his bowling skills, fitness, and work ethics.
