[Saba Sports News] After Anthony Edwards’ fiery criticism of the officiating following the Minnesota Timberwolves’ close win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, his teammate Karl-Anthony Towns joined in with a sly response. Edwards, who openly criticized the referees in a postgame interview for not favoring Minnesota with calls, anticipated a fine for his remarks, which the NBA promptly issued on Wednesday.
In reaction, Towns posted a cheeky image on his Instagram Story, featuring their former Timberwolves teammate Patrick Beverley. The image showed Beverley, who was with the Lakers at the time, famously using a camera to highlight a missed call by the referee during a 2023 game between the Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Towns’ post, however, cleverly Photoshopped Beverley into a Timberwolves jersey.
The Timberwolves felt they had legitimate grievances during their game against the Thunder, particularly upset about a non-call on an Edwards dunk late in the game. Video evidence appeared to show OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fouling Edwards, yet no call was made, and the NBA’s last two-minute report for the game upheld the no-call decision. Towns’ Instagram post reflects a sense of shared frustration within the team regarding this officiating.
