Klopp said: “The game was as difficult as I expected, we created some good chances in the first half, but we were not able to control the game completely, it was a tough game. But I really thought we played well in different phases of the game and, of course, the goal we conceded was undeserved. We were particularly good on the counter-attack and when we scored, I thought it was something we deserved. Obviously we did a better job of controlling the game in the second half and scored a very good goal. Nunez’s goal was beautiful, really incredible, and I only saw it once, so I wanted to see a replay of it as well. The third goal was an attack from a set piece and it was also a very important goal for us. McAllister and Sobosloy were a bit slow in the game, but they both played well afterwards. Matip also played very well against Antonio, which was crucial for the direction of the game. Every single player played very well in this game and we have to be ready for the next games, which will be a little bit more intensive, but we have to get used to it.”

“I’m definitely excited about the outcome of this game, that’s the truth. Our penalty came from the team’s counter-attack and I think Nunez’s pass to Diaz was very crucial, and he was the one in the box, if I remember correctly, and then Salah was there too, and if he hadn’t been fouled I think he would have finished the goal right then. The performance of the players in today’s game was excellent, we did not concede the first goal in the opening period. That’s what we’ve been looking for and we’ve done well.”
