[Saba Sports News] Jofra Archer returned to bowling for England on September 12 after recovering from an elbow injury that had sidelined him since the Indian Premier League earlier this year.
Archer’s recurring stress fracture in his right elbow had forced him to miss the entire 2023 English summer. He has battled various injuries over the past few years, starting with the right elbow injury in the 2019/20 winter. Due to these injuries, he hadn’t played a home international for England since 2020.
The elbow injury led to Archer’s exclusion from England’s initial 2023 World Cup squad, but he was considered as a traveling reserve for the tournament in India. England selector Luke Wright had mentioned that the best-case scenario for Archer would be his availability for the latter stages of the World Cup.
In a positive development, Archer bowled at nearly full capacity in a training session before England’s third ODI against New Zealand, impressing director of cricket Rob Key and assistant coach Andrew Flintoff. However, if he is included as a traveling reserve, Archer would require an injury to a player in the initial 15-man squad to participate in the tournament
