[Saba Sports News] As part of the national team’s
plans for the upcoming match day in October, Germany are set to travel to the
United States to take part in a friendly match. However, German star Lothar
Matthaus expressed strong discontent with this arrangement and openly criticised
the German Football Association in an interview. Matthaus argued that
long-distance flights for friendly matches would not be beneficial for the
players or their respective clubs. Instead, he suggested that as the host
country for next year’s European Championship, Germany should arrange friendly
matches domestically. In his view, the strength of the opponents does not
matter as creating a warm atmosphere and fostering fan unity should be prioritised.
Some fans countered the criticism by suggesting that the match in the United
States was arranged by former coach Hans-Dieter Flick and was not influenced by
the German Football Association.
