[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir credited MS Dhoni behind Rohit Sharma’s career transformation.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gambhir recalled Rohit’s struggle at the start of his career. He stated that the then-India captain MS Dhoni backed him to a great extent and played a crucial role in making Rohit one of the best modern-day batters.
“Rohit Sharma is Rohit Sharma today because of MS Dhoni. MS backed him continuously in his initial struggling phase,” Gambhir said as quoted on Star Sports.
For the unversed, Rohit did not have a great start in his international career. However, he enjoyed backing from MS Dhoni, who sent him to open in the Champions Trophy 2023. Rohit never looked back from there and became one of India’s finest batters.
On Tuesday, September 12, he reached 10,000 ODI runs, becoming the second-fastest to achieve this feat after his teammate Virat Kohli.
The 36-year-old is the ODI and Test skipper of India and will lead the team in what will be his first ODI World Cup as the captain. The upcoming World Cup will begin on October 5. India will start their campaign versus Australia on October 8.
