[Saba Sports News] At the Slamdance Film Festival in the United
States, a documentary titled “Nina is an Athlete” had its world
premiere. The documentary focuses on Nina Gorodetsky, a wheelchair badminton
champion who is approaching her 40th birthday and facing her first and possibly
final opportunity to compete in the Paralympic Games. Nina, who represents
Israel, is determined to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics while also
desiring to have a second child. Balancing her roles as a mother and an
athlete, Nina finds herself at a crossroads due to her biological clock.
However, just as she is grappling with these challenges, the global coronavirus
pandemic disrupts her plans, bringing her training, planning, and daily life to
a halt. The documentary follows Nina’s unpredictable three-year journey as she
navigates obstacles in pursuit of her Paralympic dream while also striving to
fulfill her aspirations of motherhood. In the past, there have been limited
movies or documentaries about badminton. The premiere of “Nina is an
Athlete” is expected to generate significant interest and potentially
ignite a global fascination with the sport of badminton.
