[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics overhauled much of their supporting lineup this offseason, but they ensured the long-term commitment of a key reserve.
A 4-year, $30 million agreement has been reached between the Celtics and Payton Pritchard, with the contract fully guaranteed, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Pritchard displayed newfound enthusiasm with his recent contract, delivering an impressive 26-point performance, including a crucial three-pointer, in a 114-106 preseason victory against the Philadelphia 76ers.
While the Celtics made a significant move by acquiring All-Star guard Jrue Holiday last week, they also relinquished Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon in the process and traded last season’s starting point guard, Marcus Smart, in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis.
Pritchard is poised for an expanded role in head coach Joe Mazzulla’s rotation this season, given the expected increase in backcourt playing time. The 25-year-old guard’s stats dipped to 5.6 points and 1.3 assists per game in 13.4 minutes last season, marking career lows.
