Sports News] In a recent interview with the media, Italian football legend
Gianluigi Buffon expressed his thoughts on the controversy surrounding the
gambling ban imposed on Italian stars Nicolo Fagioli and Sandro Tonali.
Although Fagioli and Tonali were accused of participating in sports betting,
including sports other than football, they were still suspended. Buffon’s
perspective differs from the general public’s opinion on the matter. He
believes that it is unfair to criminalize gambling without making a
distinction. Buffon argues that while betting on football should be punishable
for football players, betting on other sports should not be considered a crime.
He points out that advertisements for gambling apps are prevalent in stadiums
and on broadcasts, and the state encourages gambling. It is worth noting that
Buffon himself was involved in a gambling scandal during his playing days,
accused of betting on five Juventus games between 2004 and 2005. However, he
was ultimately cleared of the charges and proven innocent.
