The 17th Indian Premier League (IPL) season is
expected to begin on March 22, which is exactly five days after the Women’s
Premier League (WPL) is supposed to end. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will
conclude on May 26, which is only five days before the T20 World Cup in the
Caribbean and West Indies kicks off. On June 5, nine days later, India would
play its first World Cup match.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and
its stakeholders have tentatively agreed upon a timetable that dates the second
season of the WPL from February 22 to March 17. The league will be hosted in
Delhi and Bengaluru, as was originally announced. The dates’ formal
announcement is expected in a day or two, most likely on Monday.
The General Election calendar and the IPL schedule are
closely related. Covertly, the BCCI is thinking of having the event over the
period of March 22–May 26. The election dates must be published before the
schedule can be confirmed, but the BCCI is optimistic that the entire league
would be played in India.
Most cricket boards have assured the BCCI that their
players will be accessible until the final. However, it cannot be ruled out
that some players may travel early because the T20 World Cup starts on June 1.
However, the BCCI’s top priority right now is to hold the league in India and
coordinate the timetable with the general elections.
