[Saba Sports News] In a tragic turn of events, Afghanistan has been struck by a series of powerful earthquakes, leaving behind widespread devastation and despair. In the face of this catastrophe, former Afghanistan cricket captain Asghar Afghan has taken to social media to issue an emotional plea.
“Addressing the ICC (International Cricket Council), Afghan tweeted, ‘Dear ICC International Cricket Council! I am writing on behalf of the individuals and communities affected by the recent devastating earthquakes in Herat, Afghanistan. The extensive destruction and loss of life have left these people in dire need of support and assistance.’
“As an organization representing the global cricket community, Afghan strongly urges the ICC to express heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with those affected by the earthquakes. He believes this gesture of empathy will not only offer comfort during these trying times but also demonstrate a collective commitment to supporting those in need.
“Afghan further requests the ICC to encourage cricket players, teams, and franchises to unite and launch initiatives to gather aid for the earthquake-stricken people in Afghanistan. Whether through financial contributions, relief supplies, or volunteering efforts, every contribution can make a significant difference in easing the hardships faced by these communities.
He also highlights the potential involvement of Afghan cricket stars Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan, who represent Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
“These earthquakes, with one measuring 6.3 in magnitude, struck approximately 35 kilometers northwest of Herat, sparking widespread panic. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the death toll has climbed to a staggering 2,053, with 9,240 reported injuries.
“This devastating earthquake ranks among the worst to hit Afghanistan in decades. The international cricket community is now urged to show solidarity and provide crucial aid to those affected. Beyond expressions of sympathy, financial contributions, relief supplies, and volunteering efforts are urgently needed.
