[Saba Sports News] Alex Gidman, previously the batting coach for Kent County Cricket Club, has been named the assistant coach for the England women’s cricket team. Gidman, who led Worcestershire to the 2019 T20 Blast title, will work alongside head coach Jon Lewis, his former county team-mate. Gareth Breese and Matt Mason also serve as assistant coaches for the women’s team.
Jonathan Finch, the director of England Women’s Cricket, expressed excitement about Gidman’s appointment, especially given the upcoming busy schedule in women’s international cricket. He thanked Kent CCC for allowing Gidman to transition quickly to his new role.
Gidman shared his enthusiasm for joining the England Women’s coaching team and noted the blend of experienced and young players in the squad. He also expressed gratitude to Kent for his time there.
Gidman’s first involvement with the team will be during their December 2023 tour of India, where England will compete in three T20Is and a one-off Test in Navi Mumbai. Additionally, a England A squad will tour India, with former Durham head coach JJB Lewis joining the ECB as a performance batting coach in preparation for the tour.
