[Saba Sports News] The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former India batter Ajay Jadeja as their mentor for the ODI World Cup 2023, starting on 5th October.
Jadeja has already joined the Afghanistan camp and will guide the players with his immense experience of playing on Indian pitches.
Jadeja has the experience of playing 196 ODIs for India during the period from 1992 to 2000. He scored 5,359 runs in ODI cricket with an average of 37.47, which also includes 30 half-centuries and six hundreds. He also played 15 Test matches, gathering 576 runs.
The 52-year-old Jadeja will be a great asset for the Afghanistan team ahead of the marquee event, as he could provide first-hand insights and expertise of playing in India. Notably, he was also appointed as the head coach of the Delhi team in 2015 but he later resigned from that position and found a new role in the commentary box.
Afghanistan is all set to play their first match in the 2023 World Cup against Bangladesh on 7th October in Dharamsala.
