[Saba Sports News] Adam Gilchrist, the Australian cricket legend, has strongly refuted claims that he labeled Pakistan as the “worst Asian team” following their Test series loss in Australia. Responding to a Pakistani fan who shared a post attributing this statement to him, Gilchrist clarified on Twitter that these were completely fabricated quotes.
“I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes. Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a World Champion Australian team and very nearly won a Test or two. #fakenews #ignore,” he stated.
The disputed post had claimed, “Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions, what they won here in the last 35 years.” Gilchrist swiftly denied these allegations, emphasizing the inaccuracy of the statement.
In the recent three-match Test series, part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship, Pakistan began with a heavy 360-run defeat in Perth. Despite promising positions in matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), they ended up losing both, resulting in a 3-0 series whitewash.
Pakistan notably led in the first innings of the SCG Test, which was David Warner’s farewell match, but failed to capitalize in the second innings, leading to an eight-wicket loss. The series concluded with Pakistan not gaining any points in the World Test Championship, while Australia earned 12.
This defeat at SCG continued Pakistan’s losing streak in Australia, marking their 17th consecutive Test loss there. Following this, Pakistan is facing a five-match T20I series against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand.
