[Saba Sports News] India captain Rohit Sharma showed faith in Rajat Patidar, hinting that the team would persist with him for the time being.
Patidar, who made his Test debut in the second Test match of the ongoing series against England, have been able to score 63 runs in six innings at an average of 10.50.
While doubts loom over his place in the XI, Rohit talked about his talent, which more or less confirms his participation in the Dharamsala Test, commencing on March 7.
Rohit asserted that Patidar is still new to judge and must being given a fair run to make an assessment.
“Patidar obviously, hasn’t scored as many runs that he would like to or we would’ve liked to. But the guy definitely has got a lot of ability. I’ve seen him play very good cricket. He’s a talent player. If I watch someone’s batting and like it, I call him a talent player,” Rohit said as quoted on Tuesday.
“He [Patidar] is very much new to Test cricket, so we’ve got to give him some more time to really make a judgement on him. He’s got a lot of runs in domestic cricket. He’s lost some opportunities here, but that happens when you’re in the early stage of your career, you’re nervous, you’re trying to think about so many things. That is where I think the team has to back the individual and make sure there’s no pressure internally on him,” he added.
India have already won the series 3-1. However, in the context of the World Test Championship, the fifth match holds as much important as any other game.
