[Saba Sports News] Shivam Dube, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder, expressed his delight after playing a crucial role in their six-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of IPL 2024. Dube, along with Ravindra Jadeja, remained unbeaten in a 66-run partnership to secure the win for CSK with 1.2 overs to spare.
Speaking to teammate Rachin Ravindra in a post-match interview, Dube highlighted the special feeling of finishing the game for CSK. “Me and Jadeja are still not out from 2023 (final),” he said, referencing their similar unbeaten partnership that clinched the IPL title for CSK last year. “Finishing the game for Chennai is always something else for me. That’s what I have learned from Mahi bhai and that’s what I’m trying to do in every game.”
Dube further elaborated on his mindset during the chase. “There was only one thing in my mind,” he revealed. “Watch the ball and play. Because I know what I can do when I am there till the end.” This clear focus and trust in his abilities proved crucial for CSK, as Dube’s unbeaten 34 runs off 28 balls helped guide them home comfortably.
Dube’s knock was part of a dominant display by CSK. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra provided a solid foundation before the likes of Ajinkya, Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Dube and Jadeja took over to ensure a convincing victory. This win sets the tone for CSK’s title defense, and Dube’s contribution, inspired by Dhoni’s leadership, will be a major boost for their campaign.
Earlier, CSK bowlers, led by Mustafizur Rahman’s impressive four-wicket haul (4-29), restricted RCB to a modest total of 173/6. Despite a late flourish from Anuj Rawat Maxwell (48), RCB’s batting faltered against the disciplined CSK bowling attack.
