[Saba Sports News] The highly anticipated Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) kicks off on Friday, March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening match. RCB will be aiming for a strong start to the season as they clash with one of their long-standing rivals on their home turf.
Led by Faf du Plessis, RCB faced disappointment last season, failing to make it to the playoffs, finishing sixth on the points table with 14 points from seven wins out of 14 matches. However, they are determined to turn things around this season, with former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee expressing confidence in their ability to lift the trophy in 2024.
Lee remarked at an event that RCB has consistently fielded a strong team over the years, and the recent changes in their name and jersey might bring them luck. He noted, “I actually think RCB have a very good chance this year. I would not bet against them. They’ve had the best side for a number of years, maybe different ways. Over here in India, there are a lot of superstitions. They have changed the name, colour of the clothing. This could be the year.”
RCB recently rebranded from ‘Royal Challengers Bangalore’ to ‘Royal Challengers Bengaluru’ during the ‘Unbox event’ on March 19, unveiling their new jersey with a touch of blue. Adding to the franchise’s recent success, the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s team secured their first-ever T20 title by winning the Women’s Premier League 2024, led by Smriti Mandhana. This victory serves as inspiration for the men’s team as they aim to script another historic moment by clinching the elusive IPL title.
