of World Records, badminton holds the title as the fastest ball sport in the
world, with speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour. Despite its small size,
weighing between 4.6 grams and 5.5 grams, this little shuttlecock carries
immense value. In Chengdu, China, there is a company that has been deeply
involved in the badminton industry for nearly 40 years, processing over 100
million feather pieces annually. Each goose provides up to seven feathers on
its left and right wings, all of which can be utilized for making badminton
shuttlecocks. Depending on the size of the feathers and the thickness of the
feather tubes, it takes approximately 20 goose feathers to produce one dozen
shuttlecocks. Through a standardized process consisting of over 20 steps, each
piece of white goose feather undergoes nearly a month of processing before it
is transformed into a badminton shuttlecock. The company currently boasts a
monthly production capacity exceeding 10 million feather pieces. While the
Chengdu company’s output may not be as high as that of Asia Lion, China’s
largest feather supplier, it is considered a leading force in the industry
within the entire southwestern region of China.
