Sports News] In a recent La Liga match, Barcelona experienced a 3-5 defeat at
home against Villarreal. Following the game, Xavi, the coach of Barcelona,
announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season. Barcelona
subsequently confirmed Xavi’s departure. Xavi took over as Barcelona coach on
November 6, 2021, and led the team to win the La Liga championship and the
Spanish Super Cup in the 2022-23 season. He had renewed his contract with
Barcelona in September of the previous year, with the contract set to expire in
2025 and including a one-year extension option. However, Barcelona’s
performance this season has been disappointing, with only 13 wins, five draws,
and three losses in 21 La Liga games. Currently, they are in third place in the
standings with 44 points, trailing the league leaders Real Madrid by 10 points.
They suffered a 1-4 defeat to Real Madrid in Spanish Super Cup and then a 2-4
loss to Athletic Bilbao in Copa del Rey, resulting in an exit from the
tournament in the quarterfinals. In the Champions League knockout round, they
will face Napoli. Xavi’s decision to depart at the end of the season comes as
Barcelona seeks to address their current situation, aiming for a change in
their performance and results.
