[Saba Sports News] Sri Lanka had a challenging start in the ODI World Cup 2023, facing South Africa and conceding 428 runs in the first innings. In the run chase, they managed 326 runs but lost by 102 runs.
Injuries have plagued the team recently, with star bowler Maheesh Theekshana missing the South Africa match due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Asia Cup 2023.
However, the team received good news ahead of their second World Cup match as assistant coach Naveed Nawaz confirmed Theekshana’s complete recovery and availability for the upcoming game against Pakistan.
Nawaz mentioned, ‘He’s fit and should play tomorrow; we didn’t want to risk him in the first game against medical advice, but he should be ready.’
Regarding the playing conditions, Nawaz expected similar pitches for their match against Pakistan at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook throughout the tournament, learning from each game, and moving forward.
