[Saba Sports News] India fast-bowler Mohammad Shami became a recipient of the Arjuna Award on Tuesday when the President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred him a prestigious sporting honor.
Shami’s name was recommended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his exceptional performance in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The pacer was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He emerged as India’s biggest match-winning, scalping 24 wickets in seven matches.
“This award is a dream, life passes and people are not able to win this award. I am happy that I have been nominated for this award,” Shami had said as quoted.

A total of 26 athletes received the Arjuna Award in 2023 in a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan with most of them getting the reward for their brilliant show in the Asian Games 2023.
Shami became the 58th cricketer to be bestowed with the Arjuna Award, which is the second-highest sporting honor in India after the Khel Ratna.
