[Saba Sports News] Chennai-born cricketer Vriitya Aravind, currently playing for the Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, has made a mark in UAE cricket since moving there at age six. His interest in cricket sparked during India’s 2011 World Cup win, a pivotal moment he experienced during a summer vacation in Chennai. Initially introduced to various sports except cricket, he found his passion for the game in the UAE.
Vriitya’s cricket journey began as an accidental wicketkeeper in his Under-11 club due to a team shortage. Since his UAE debut in December 2019 against the USA, he has played 55 ODIs and 45 T20Is, scoring two ODI centuries and five T20I fifties. He credits leagues like the Abu Dhabi T10 for enhancing UAE cricket, providing exposure and confidence to compete internationally.
Balancing cricket with academics, Vriitya is studying Psychology and Criminology at Loughborough University in England and plays cricket in Birmingham during the UK winter.
Despite his busy schedule, he hasn’t visited Chennai in five years and longs to return for an extended stay, craving the comfort of his mother’s South Indian cooking. He looks forward to visiting his hometown once his studies conclude.
