[Saba Sports News] Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was penalized by the FIA for swearing during a media event at last month’s Singapore Grand Prix and was required to participate in a one-day community service activity. In response, Verstappen stated that he has not yet received all the details regarding this penalty but has decided to continue opposing the FIA by speaking less during race day media events and holding his own small media gatherings outside the media room. Verstappen reiterated that he knows he cannot swear in public and understands that he is a role model for teenagers; however, he feels that this penalty is more like an insult to him as it denies his lifestyle. Verstappen’s strong stance has received support from the F1 Drivers’ Association. George Russell from Mercedes stated that the organization hopes to hold a hearing with the FIA next week to discuss this incident. In my view, Verstappen’s behavior challenges the FIA’s limits of tolerance; as an F1 world champion, he is an idol for teenagers and cannot act freely when speaking or acting.
