[Saba Sports News] According to reports from British media, the VAR officials for the Champions League qualifying match between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Kyiv were arrested hours before the game. It was reported that the experienced Polish referee Frankowski was initially appointed as the VAR referee for this match, with his colleague Musial serving as the VAR assistant referee. However, after incredible details emerged in Poland, both officials have dramatically disappeared from the game. Frankowski, Musial, and a third person were apprehended by the police in the early hours for allegedly vandalizing road signs. Local authorities stated, “Around 1:40 AM, we received a report of three men holding road signs in the street. Police were dispatched to the scene. All individuals were intoxicated, with blood alcohol levels exceeding 1.5 units per milligram. They have been taken to a detox center.”
37-year-old Frankowski is one of the top referees in Poland and an experienced international referee. He served at FIFA for 10 years, officiated at the 2020 European Championship and the 2024 European Championship as a referee, and was a VAR referee for the latter. Both referees have now been dismissed by UEFA.
