[Saba Sports News] On December 29, 2013, Michael Schumacher suffered a
skiing accident in which he sustained severe brain damage after his head hit a
rock. It has been approximately 10 years since the accident occurred. Following
the incident in 2014, Schumacher returned home to focus on his recovery. His
family made the decision to keep his condition strictly confidential, thereby
blocking news about his progress. Only a select few individuals were permitted
to visit him. The details of Schumacher’s recovery have been a subject of great
concern for numerous motorsport enthusiasts. Recently, the German newspaper
“Bild” published an article revealing some insights into Schumacher’s
ongoing rehabilitation. This report has been cited by several publications such
as the “Daily Mail” and Planet F1. According to the article,
Schumacher is under the constant care of a 15-person medical team, receiving
round-the-clock attention. It is mentioned that he listens to Formula 1 radio
calls and team orders on a daily basis, reminiscent of his career in the sport.
Additionally, the medical team has placed Schumacher in a Mercedes-AMG car,
allowing him to hear the sound of a racing engine. “Bild” speculates
that this approach may be a form of neurotherapy, utilizing familiar sounds to
stimulate the brain. However, neuroscientist Tobias Bonhoeffer believes that
damage to nerve tissue in the brain or spinal cord is generally irreparable. In
cases of severe brain damage like Schumacher’s, there may no longer be a
sufficient number of intact nerve cells capable of assuming their functions. As
of now, there have been no indications of a possible recovery or revival for
Schumacher.
