Sports News] According to reports from Korean media, the Cyber Investigation
Team of the Seoul Police Agency has requested the Ministry of Justice to impose
a travel ban on South Korean international footballer Ui-jo Hwang. Hwang is
suspected of involvement in illegal filming and other related offenses. The
police took this measure to prevent Hwang from leaving the country before the
investigation is completed, as he had repeatedly refused to appear in court.
Hwang has expressed dissatisfaction with the Seoul Police Agency, protesting
what he considers to be an “excessive investigation.” In private
statements to the police on the 12th and 15th, Hwang claimed that the victim
was aware of the filming of the indecent video and did not refuse it. The
Korean Football Association has previously declared that Hwang will not be
called up for the national team until the investigation is concluded, and as a
result, he messed the Asian Cup. If convicted, Hwang could face a prison sentence
of up to 3 years or a fine of 30 million won. The sister-in-law who uploaded
the video and threatened Hwang was arrested and charged in December of the
previous year and is currently on trial.
